Legal Invoice Analyst I

Contract - 6 months with potential for conversion
Hours: Hybrid - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST
Location: Hybrid - Must be able to work 2 days a week in the St. Cloud or Minneapolis office
Pay: $26.66 an hour W2

The Legal Invoice Analyst I is responsible for the prompt, accurate, and efficient auditing of electronically submitted legal fee and expense invoices from law firms and vendors for clients. The role includes adjusting invoice line items that violate relevant billing guidelines and documenting the rationale for those adjustments. The analyst will provide guidance to business unit partners on issues or opportunities within the Legal Billing Audit (LBA) process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Invoice Review: Efficiently and accurately review legal invoice entries to ensure compliance with legal billing guidelines.
  2. Invoice Assignments: Receive legal invoice assignments from the Operations Support Specialist or manage the intake queue for self-assignments.
  3. Compliance Verification: Ensure that submitted invoices from law firms and vendors comply with the established legal billing guidelines.
  4. UTBMS Task Codes: Verify the accuracy of UTBMS task codes (Fee, Activity, and Expense codes) applied to invoice line items.
  5. Adjustments and Documentation: Document reasons for adjustments made to invoice line items, specifying the violated billing guideline and the rationale for the amount adjusted.
  6. Invoice Review Process: Forward the audited legal bill through the required review chain.
  7. Collaboration: Communicate and calibrate with Legal Invoice Analysts and Quality Assurance Analysts.
  8. Analysis and Evaluation: Apply discretion and sound judgment when reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating legal fee and expense invoice entries.
  9. Legal Terminology: Utilize strong understanding of legal terminology and claims legal situations, with multijurisdictional exposure preferred.
  10. Independent Work: Be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after training.
  11. Technology Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in using electronic legal bill submission and auditing software.
  12. Organization: Maintain excellent organizational skills to efficiently review a sufficient number of invoices in a given time period.
  13. Business Math & Communication: Use appropriate business math and have strong business telephone skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education: Paralegal Certification or a Bachelor's Degree in a legal-related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a legal services or legal auditing environment, with the following specific skills:
    1. Legal Billing Process: Experience with legal billing practices.
    2. Legal Procedure: Understanding of federal and/or state rules of civil procedure.
